Single-use vape ban – basics for businesses

The law around selling single-use vapes changes on 1 June 2025. Don’t get caught out.

By: Trading Standards Officer Claire Lilley.

From 1 June 2025, single-use or disposable vapes will no longer be legal to sell.

After this date, vapes must be rechargeable, refillable and the coil must be able to be replaced. Businesses need to sell all remaining stock of single-use vapes before 1 June 2025.

Any stock left after that date must be put in a storeroom and labelled ‘not for sale’. These vapes will need to be disposed of using a registered vape recycling service.

After 1 June 2025, Trading Standards will seize any single-use vapes. Businesses may be issued with a penalty notice or a stop notice and may be charged with a penalty, such as an unlimited fine or two years’ imprisonment for repeat offences. Businesses will also be liable for any costs of disposing of seized vapes.
