Gerry Wintrip and Chris King are experienced regulatory enforcers with a number of high level successful prosecutions to their credit. They are also experienced trainers in the areas of doorstep crime and fraud.
Course Programme
This course looks at dealing with a complaint of Doorstep Crime from its initial report, through the stages of evidence gathering, including statements, expert evidence, intelligence gathering, interviewing and suggested offences right through to the court hearing and sentencing. It is aimed at officers who have little or no experience of dealing with doorstep crime, but could also be used as a refresher for officers with more experience. Note; this training is available to local authority staff only.

Bruce is Holiday and Travel Law Lead Officer for CTSI and is regularly involved in delivering training and offering guidance to trading standards colleagues and the holiday industry. Bruce has been heavily involved with developments in the holiday industry, liaising with the Department for Business and Trade, the Department for Transport, the Civil Aviation Authority and ABTA regarding potential law changes.

The course will provide detail regarding the laws relating to holidays and travel, specifically current problems with the 2018 PTRs. This will include the Department for Business and Trade’s (DBT’s), 2018 PTR’s consultation, which closed in December 2023. The session will highlight how DBT, whilst seeking views on the law to ensure the Regulations strike the right balance between consumer protections and business freedoms, suggests possible changes which will affect all consumers, business, and enforcement but not all in a positive way. The training will highlight the latest DBT ideas, and will include practical ideas for enforcement, including how the DMCC Bill could provide positive help.

Steph is an experienced Team Leader enforcing animal health legislation with Staffordshire County Council and has a wealth of experience on taking animals into possession using the powers available in the Animal Welfare Act 2006. Steph is also the Lead Officer for CTSI on Animal Health and Welfare and Lead Officer for Animal Welfare on the National Animal Health and Welfare Panel.
